We would like to develop a low-cost, highly-mobile modular pre-school which would help communities to recover from hardships or expand their educational capacity to children who may not have been able to access education before.
Phase one of TodayDream consists of a dynamic web portal to connect schools/orgs with nearby talented minorities, mobile app for participating speakers and other talented minorities to build community & foster alliances among themselves, and partnerships with corporations, nonprofits, and government agencies to provide speakers to join our community, as well as access a repository of minority talent to promote diversity in hiring.
MythOS is addressing the growing gap in social and emotional skills among adolescents who are not being served by traditional social activities (sports, theater, etc.) but are instead consumed by digital entertainment. MythOS is using games that resonate with digitally-focused adolescents to drive home social and emotional skills.
Awardees project seeks to address this problem through an easy-to-understand and free website or software that educators could use to (a) consolidate their data, (b) analyze their data, and (c) move quickly from analysis to action-planning.
The lack of students moving from an interest in STEM to a STEM career is problematic. Awardees plan to curate the best free STEM learning resources for students (videos, tutorials, MOOCS, documentaries, career profiles) in one place, and connect them in a way that encourages exploration.
KidCollab attempts to aid students and teachers in dealing with collaborative projects in the classroom. They envision that this experience will take the form of a “quest,” in which students will work together to solve a problem.
The Health Professions Recruitment & Exposure Program (HPREP) at Harvard Medical School is a high school science enrichment program aimed at recruiting high school students from the Boston area, particularly those from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds, into science and medicine.
The Child & Youth Advocates (CYA) seeks to build a community of students interested in a wide variety of issues affecting children and youth, including juvenile justice, child welfare, education, and children’s rights. We aim to heighten awareness and encourage discussion of these issues at HLS, facilitate student involvement with children and youth in our community and beyond, and advocate for children’s rights.
The HLS Advocates for Education (A4E) is a student-run organization at Harvard Law School. We are an organization of students who are passionate about improving our nation’s education system and dedicated to raising awareness about current issues in education law and policy. A4E brings together students interested in these issues with practicing lawyers, policymakers, educators, and advocates. We seek to encourage greater understanding and participation by hosting various speakers and events throughout the year.
We intend to create a space for students interested in rural education to discuss some of the challenges facing rural schools today and how we can utilize the tools provided to us through HGSE to be effective change makers in those spaces. Additionally, we will raise awareness throughout HGSE of the conversations around rural schools in order to ensure that all HGSE students have the knowledge of rural schools necessary in order to bring that into their future work.
The HGSE Early Childhood Community is a space for all students interested in early childhood. We aim to engage our community in discussions about early childhood development and education, and to connect students with the resources they need to be change-makers in the field.
The Journal of Emerging Investigators (JEI) is an open-access journal run by Harvard graduate students that publishes original research conducted by middle and high school students. JEI provides young scientists, under the guidance of a teacher or advisor, the opportunity to submit and gain feedback on original research and to publish their findings in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
