Harvard Centers for Teaching and Learning

Active Learning Labs (SEAS)

The SEAS academic plan emphasizes the need for hands-on engineering experiences and student design projects. The Active Learning Laboratories are expected to take the lead and excel in supporting these student experiences. The support team is composed of full-time engineer/scientist staff members across many disciplines. The Active Learning Labs at SEAS and the related machine shops in the Physics Department support the educational mission of the school by supporting students with access to and training on state-of-the-art instrumentation and advanced fabrication tools. Christensen Center for Teaching and Learning (HBS)

The C. Roland Christensen Center for Teaching and Learning was established in 2004 to promote and support teaching excellence and innovation within Harvard Business School. It also provides leadership and expertise about case method teaching and participant-centered learning for instructors at other institutions in the United States and abroad. Link to website.

Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning (FAS)

By supporting experimentation, innovation, and evidence-based practices, the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning seeks to create transformational learning experiences for faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates in Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Link to website.

Global Health Education and Learning Incubator (GHELI)

The Global Health Education and Learning Incubator at Harvard University inspires and supports innovative learning, teaching, and dialogue about cutting-edge, multidisciplinary global challenges. They foster and evaluate new pedagogical tools and instructional strategies that bridge disciplinary fields, educational spaces, and groups of learners. Through the deliberative design of inclusive learning spaces—to gather, to collaborate, to spark unexpected discussions—the Incubator encourages transformative thinking across disciplines while breaking down conceptual and geographic boundaries. The Learning Incubator (SEAS)

The Learning Incubator (LInc) seeks to advance learning at SEAS and elevate SEAS as a worldwide leader in innovation in learning and teaching by: 1) Providing a team-based infrastructure for faculty to incubate, develop and adapt novel ideas and approaches to teaching; 2) Developing a culture of scholarship of teaching and learning (including research on learning and assessment) within SEAS and FAS; and 3) Providing opportunities for faculty to learn new approaches to teaching aligned with research on how students learn. The Center activities focus on community building, education and faculty development, knowledge sharing, and dissemination. All faculty at SEAS and university-wide are invited and welcome to participate in LInc activities. The Center aims to support innovation in pedagogical methods and curriculum, and promote research that focuses on teaching, learning, and assessment in engineering and the sciences. Link to website.
