HILT awarded six Spark Grants of $5-$15K this semester intended to “spark” promising teaching and learning projects this academic year:
A crash course in Harvard College undergraduates. Michael Zachau Walker and Sophia Watkins (College) will design a workshop equipping teaching fellows with increased understanding of teaching Harvard undergraduates in order to foster meaningful and productive relationships.
The Harvard Initiative for Learning and Teaching (HILT) awarded three Cultivation Grants of up to $200K to projects toward:
Assessing curricular innovation (HMS). Edward Krupat, Richard Schwartzstein, Jeremy Richards, Amy Sullivan, and David Roberts will evaluate the impact of curriculum renewal at HMS and develop a model for educational assessment by analyzing student data of cohorts from both the previous curriculum and the new curriculum being implemented in 2015.
Improving student statistics literacy. Abha Ahuja and Melanie Stefan (HMS) will study misconceptions about statistics in a high-enrollment life science course and develop a related computer-based module.
