The [Active Learning Labs (ALL)](https://www.seas.harvard.edu/active-learning-labs) are a unit of the [Teaching and Learning Group](https://seas.harvard.edu/teaching-and-learning), which also oversees a set of [instructional shops](https://seas.harvard.edu/instructional-scientific-shops) and the [REEF Makerspace](https://seas.harvard.edu/reef-makerspace). The Active Learning Labs advance the SEAS mission by extending student learning beyond the classroom. Partnering with faculty, the team brings hands-on engineering and design experiences to life through project-based learning grounded in design thinking. With a no-limits mindset, they empower students to build, create, and collaborate across disciplines and experience levels throughout the Harvard community.

[The C. Roland Christensen Center for Teaching and Learning](https://www.hbs.edu/teaching/Pages/default.aspx) was established in 2004 to promote and support teaching excellence and innovation within Harvard Business School. It also provides leadership and expertise about case method teaching and participant-centered learning for instructors at other institutions in the United States and abroad.

The Department of Teaching and Learning at Harvard DCE works with Harvard Extension, Harvard Summer School, and DCE’s Professional and Executive Development instructors to empower learners through flexible, innovative, and human-centered education. They support more than 1000 online and hybrid courses per year with open enrollment aimed at non-traditional students: adult part-time learners, high school students, and retirees. Their team embraces emerging technologies and personalized support to meet the evolving needs of students, wherever they are. By staying agile, collaborative, and responsive to change, the team designs learning experiences that are impactful, forward-thinking, and deeply connected to the real world.

It partners across the university to advance effective teaching and learning in a rapidly changing educational landscape. Working with the full spectrum of the FAS teaching community—from undergraduate Course Assistants to senior faculty—the Center supports reimagining courses, pedagogy, and professional development. They foster and evaluate new pedagogical tools and instructional strategies that bridge disciplinary fields, educational spaces, and groups of learners. Through the deliberative design of inclusive learning spaces—to gather, to collaborate, to spark unexpected discussions—the Incubator encourages transformative thinking across disciplines while breaking down conceptual and geographic boundaries.

From supporting classroom and online learning to creating and assessing learning experiences, the TLL team brings a mindset of innovation, experimentation, and analysis to their work. The team-based approach and range of professional expertise allow the TLL to see projects through ideation and discovery to delivery and iteration.

Its role is also to develop and support a community of leaders in education and a culture of excellence in teaching and learning, to foster the careers of educators in medicine and science, to provide programming to improve the skills of teachers, to stimulate and support the creation and implementation of innovative approaches to learning and assessment, and to support educational research and scholarship in medical and graduate education.
